Polymer gel separating blood serum

Thixotropic Polymer Serum Separator Gel

  • In medical diagnosis laboratories, tubes containing blood serum separating gel are used in order to facilitate the administration of high quality serum.
  • In this regard, companies producing laboratory products use silicone, styrene and new acrylate gels.
  • Polymer gel has unique properties that are widely used in serum separator tubes.
  • The polymer gel is without silicone oil or any substance that can be suspended in the blood serum, so it is suitable for use in modern biochemistry and hormonology autoanalyzers.

Qualitative comparison of polymer gel and silicone gel:

  • The polymer gels produced by Giti Pejohan Sana Salamat company have polymer chains with appropriate molecular weight, which maintain their thixotropic properties at different temperatures and will have a long shelf life. With its warehouse, the quality of produced pipes will not be reduced.
  • Silicone gels have a relatively low molecular weight, which becomes heavier as the storage time increases, and its thixotropic property decreases, as a result, it will increase viscosity and require a higher spin of the centrifuge.
  • Polymer gels containing neutral substances(inert material ) that none of the laboratory indexes will be effective, even drug level measurement tests (Therapeutic drug monitoring)TDM.
  • Silicone gel is not suitable for drug tests due to drug absorption.
  • The polymer gel does not contain any substances that can be precipitated or suspended in the blood serum, and there will be no precipitation or clogging in the needle and the paths of the devices that use the serum of this product.
  • Due to the materials used in it, silicone gel contains silicone oils suspended in water and easily floats in the serum, as a result, over time, they will clog the tubes and ducts of automatic laboratory devices.
  •  Polymer gel has the ability to resist gamma rays for sterilization above 25 kg Gy, while silicone gel will be destroyed in doses above 15 kg Gy.
  • The polymer gel has a temperature range of up to 100 degrees Celsius, which will help to inject the gel inside the tube with the gel injection device. For this purpose, a controllable oil or hot water rotating heating system should be used (avoid heating with elements that generate spot heat).
  •  The blood tube containing the separated serum above the surface of the polymer gel can be kept in the refrigerator or freezer up to minus 70 degrees according to the standard of the tests. This is despite the fact that it can be used after it comes out of the freezer without any external changes or disintegration inside the serum.
